Leons Backhaus on Leonrodstraße is a cozy spot that feels like a well-kept secret among Munich locals who appreciate quality coffee and fresh pastries without the fuss. This family-run café and bakery brings a quiet warmth to the neighborhood, making it a reliable spot for a relaxed breakfast or a casual coffee break.

The place has an unpretentious exterior that opens into a welcoming, comfortably snug interior where the focus truly lies in the craft of coffee roasting and baking. The staff here clearly prioritize personal connection, offering service that feels both attentive and genuine — the kind of place where the barista remembers your preference and the smile at the counter is easy and sincere.

Leons Backhaus stands out with its range of coffee options, including decaf and vegan milk choices, catering well to varied tastes and dietary needs. The coffee itself strikes a balance between richness and smoothness, inviting you to linger over a cup whether you’re catching up with friends or seeking a quiet moment alone. Pastries are freshly made and thoughtfully prepared, complementing the coffee in a way that feels crafted rather than mass-produced.

Because it opens on Sundays, it offers a rare little corner of calm in Munich’s weekend bustle, perfect for a slow morning or early afternoon pause. Many visitors are regulars who drop by for a quick breakfast, yet the atmosphere supports longer stays for anyone looking to unwind or work quietly. Its location in the district adds to that everyday appeal — not flashy or overwhelming, but solidly reliable, serving the community around it.

Overall, Leons Backhaus is best for those who value a straightforward, heartfelt coffee experience paired with fresh bakery goods in a setting that feels more like stepping into a friend’s kitchen than a typical café. Early mornings or late mornings on weekends could be ideal times to visit before the lunchtime crowd, enjoying a balance of calm and understated charm.

Don't let the unassuming exterior fool you! Inside, you'll find a truly warm and inviting atmosphere. It's a family-run gem, and the people are incredibly kind. The owner's dedication to crafting the perfect cup of coffee is evident in every delicious sip. But what truly sets this place apart is the genuine kindness and sincerity of everyone, from the person making your coffee to the friendly cashier. You can tell they truly care about their customers. It's a delightful experience all around.

My first time a few months back was really nice. They were really helpful when I was ordering and gave excellent service. I came back for short holidays, and service still superb. Coffee is unique, and pastries are really tasty! I highly recommend this place on your trip to Munich. All staff are really nice and helpful.

One of a few bakeries with a ‘soul’ and attention to details. Good coffee, also decaf and vegan milk options, very welcoming staff. Great for a quick breakfast. And they are open on Sundays!

Great Italian coffee and baked goods! The croissant was crispy and fluffy and the calzone was warmed up on the spot. The staff is very friendly and the decoration is a fun and cozy.

My mornings just wouldn’t be the same without a steaming cup of coffee! I was absolutely thrilled to discover this charming little Italian coffee shop. The cortado was exquisite, and the pastries? Fresh and utterly delicious! If you find yourself in Munich, make it a priority to check out this place.

Although I dropped by almost closing time on my way home, the staff was superrrr friendly! when I ask about the menu, he explained me not only the one I pointed out but all the menus there, which was so sweet! The walnut-zucchini cake with chocolate chips was very fresh(literally) and nice, guess it’d go along with yogurt or cream cheese:) I defo wanna try coffee and other menus as well
